About this song
Kabhi Jo Main Ishq Likhu Lyrics
There’s a quiet sadness in Ali & Shjr’s “Heer” because it is about loving someone even after things between you have started to change. Written by Talat Kazmi and produced by Haider Ali, the song was released on January 30, 2025. The Heer-Ranjha reference adds a romantic touch, but what really comes through in the lyrics is the feeling of missing someone, holding on to the memories you still have and wondering if that person feels anything for you anymore
“Kabhi jo main ishq likhun, teri tasveer bane” immediately shows how deeply he has associated love with her. Whenever he thinks of ishq, he sees her. Then he says, “Haske main Ranjha banun, jo tu meri Heer bane,” imagining the two of them as Heer and Ranjha. It is a simple wish, really. He wants her to be his person, and he wants to believe they could have a story worth holding on to. When he says, “Chahun tere haathon se meri taqdeer bane,” it feels like he is leaving his future in her hands because he wants her to be part of it
But then you can feel that something has gone wrong. “Pehle si baat nahi, kya main tujhe yaad nahi?” sounds like someone who has started noticing the distance but still does not want to believe it. He knows she has changed, or maybe the relationship has, and he cannot help wondering whether she even thinks about him anymore. He also keeps going back to that one painful memory, “Woh tera kehna ki tu mujhko chaahta nahi.” Hearing that from someone you love can stay with you for a long time, and the next line, “Dil bhi main pesh karun, tu agar teer bane,” shows just how helpless he feels. He knows she can hurt him, but he is still ready to give her his heart
Later, instead of trying to figure everything out himself, he simply asks her to be honest. “Ya sach mein bata de, tu chaahti hai kya hona juda?” feels like a genuine plea for an answer. Maybe the relationship is already falling apart, but he still wants to hear from her whether she really wants to leave. And when he asks, “Kya baaqi hai ab bhi tere, jaan-e-jaan, dil mein jagah?” he is really asking whether he still matters to her at all
You can also see how much her absence has started affecting him. “Aisi koi raat nahi jismein na yaad teri” says that he cannot even get through a night without thinking about her. He has carried her into his everyday life so deeply that being without her now feels unnatural. “Bin tere jaane kyun muskurata nahi” makes that even clearer. He is not just sad when he thinks of her. He has stopped feeling like himself
The last verse brings the Heer-Ranjha imagery back with “Khud ko main baandh loon, ‘gar jo tu zanjeer bane.” There is something almost painful about the way he says it. Even if loving her means being tied down, he is still willing to stay. He would rather carry that attachment than pretend he can simply walk away
That is really what “Heer” comes down to. It is not only about romance. It is about what happens when you still love someone after the relationship has started slipping away. You remember the good parts, replay the things they said, look for some sign that they still care and, somewhere inside, keep hoping there is still a place for you in their heart
