Kailash Kher, born on July 7, 1973, is a highly acclaimed Indian singer, composer, and musician renowned for his distinctive fusion of Sufi, folk, and rock genres. With a versatile repertoire spanning over 18 languages, he has left an indelible mark in the music industry, having composed for more than 400 films. Notably, Kher has been honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award, a testament to his significant contributions to Indian music.

Hailing from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Kher comes from a Kashmiri Pandit family deeply rooted in musical traditions. His father, Mehar Singh Kher, a traditional folk singer, and his mother, Suman Kher, a homemaker, laid the foundation for his musical journey. Early exposure to his father’s artistry inspired Kher to embrace singing, leading him to master the harmonium and tabla. Additionally, he delved into the study of classical music during a formative period.

Kher’s cinematic debut as a playback singer occurred in the 2003 film “Andaz,” with his track “Rabba Ishq Na Hove” soaring to chart-topping success. This marked the beginning of a prolific career, earning him his inaugural Filmfare Award nomination for Best Male Playback Singer.

Subsequently, Kher lent his soulful voice to numerous hit films, such as “Fanaa” (2006), “Taare Zameen Par” (2007), “Jodhaa Akbar” (2008), “Singh Is Kinng” (2008), and “Delhi 6” (2009). His rendition of “Yu Hi Chala” from “Fanaa” secured him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer.

Beyond the realm of Hindi cinema, Kher’s musical prowess extended to various languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Punjabi. His excellence in Telugu was acknowledged with a Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the enchanting “Shiv Shankari” from the film “Mirchi” (2013).

In his personal life, Kailash Kher is happily married to Shikha Kher, and the couple is blessed with a son named Kabir Kher.
